Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie Review Sun Aug 17, 2008
7:07 pm
So I went to the latest Star Wars movie over the weekend. To preface, I am a huge Star Wars fan and was eagerly awaiting the telling of stories between Movies two and three.

Image

At the beginning of this movie I quickly deduced that going animated was a genius move to make it practical to release several more Star Wars movies. The actors never age, you don't even have to use their voices if they want huge $ or have scheduling conflicts. The budget is pennies vs. a full feature movie.

My approval of the format of this movie quickly changed to concern over the audience demographic; lots of children. But I justified this by the early show time and the animated format. I thought to myself, "Man, these parents are going to be covering their kid's eyes when the heads start rolling".

Image

Well long story short, this movie was more of a very long Saturday morning cartoon. There were glimpses of the Star Wars grit and drama that we all love but it was masked most of the time by a simple/silly plot, weak new characters coupled with a toned down original cast. Anakin Skywalker acted more like Anny than Anakin. He seemed so out of character, it was as if he was playing a part in "Saved by the Bell goes to Space!".

Star Wars Fan Girl score- 6/10

Movie critic inside of me score - 5/10

Meta Critic score - 35 /100 (based on 30 reviews)

This is a definite rental for Star Wars Fans if only to catch up on the story line. If you don't love Star Wars this movie is a pass. Sorry Folks, but the force is not strong with Clone Wars the movie.

As I sat in the theater at 12 on Thursday evening (or Friday morning technically) going on 12 hours of sleep in the past three days I prepared myself to mock the Heath Ledger for Oscar fans as I had scoffed when I heard he would take on the legendary role from Jack Nicholson. I was as wrong as wrong can be. Let me start by saying the few things I did not like about this film.

Dislike #1.) The fight scenes. This is not the Batman from "Batman Begins". This Batman is much slower focusing more on power it would seem instead of the fluidity he had learned in Asia.
Dislike #2.) The quick burnout of Two-Face. Why build him for so long only to watch him burnout quicker than New Kids on the Block? I'm sure you can figure out why after viewing the film but I still didn't like this choice. Aaron Eckhart does an amazing job showing the downward spiral of a man who was once even more noble than the caped crusader himself. Unfortunately it is like the amusement park ride where the ride builds all the way to end in a fraction of the time it took to get where you are.

All right now to the good stuff. Bale's batman continues to grow and become more human than any Batman to date. I believe Bale to be the best all around Batman but Michael Keaton will always be the best Bruce Wayne. Allow me to clarify; Michael Keaton got the character of the rich playboy with a sense of justice down to a T but I don't buy him flying around punching anyone. Bale has the best of both worlds and the writing to support it as well. Eckhart's Harvey Dent shows the most levels of any character in the film and has now given a good reason to pay attention to Two-face, not that you ever needed one. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are dialed back here, as they should be, and shine for their time on the screen. Maggie Gyllenhaal is an infinite improvement over the flat Katie Holmes. She builds a character you can see Wayne love. Christopher Nolan has the chutzpah to be involved in every screen play of a film he directs and it makes him that much more superior to his counterparts. The films always feel more connected to their dialogue and every scene shows purposae that few other movies do.

Now on to the reason most people saw the film. Heath Ledger is no longer Heath Ledger and never will be again. This man is the Joker, through and through. This is the most complete character I have seen in a very long time. He has ticks, he has a unique voice and speech pattern, unique walk, unique mannerisms etc. etc. He also has the best magic trick since the prestige haha. This character borrows from no one's portrayal of him, neither animated or motion picture. When he is not on screen you find it hard to focus your thoughts on anything except what he may be doing. When he is on screen you find yourself intrigued, terrified, and amused all within seconds of each other. In any year Ledger deserves the nomination for this portrayal but in this year (so far) he deserves to win! A small downside to his stellar performance is that it makes the movie feel more like The Joker Chronicles than The Dark Knight. Overall this has been the most important film of the year and a must see for anyone who calls themself a movie lover. The Joker will go down as one of the greatest badguys of all time. 4.5/5

Alright so I have to sit down for this one because let me tell ya... this game is pure bliss...

So when I first started playing the game I noticed right off the bat that I needed to change my configuration settings so I hopped off and looked at the options... OMG... I almost creamed myself just with the configurations options alone. On top of the normal look sensitivity and such there are a million other options. Basically if you were to take any bitch you've ever heard about any game UT3 has a set up for you to fix it. For instance I can change my turning speed (what a concept). I get to decide how I want to drive my vehicles and how my map reads directions (fixed north & south or moves while I move). AND GET THIS... are you prepared... this is the ultimate... I CAN REMOVE THE OBNOXIOUS GUN OFF MY HUD OR MAKE IT SHOW SMALLER!!! What does that mean... oh that I don't have a gun blocking my view. I mean c'mon I can even chose which hand that gun goes in. I mean this game is designed for competitive play... and you can fix you configs to fit your game style... SWEET!!!

Okay so after I literally giggles over the awesomeness of the configurations alone I then started up the game. OH Epic how I love thee. So pretty... done with the true unreal/epic feel. But some of the characters do look a little familar...

Image

It's okay though... I'll forgive you because... THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY BAD ABOUT THIS GAME!!!!

So let's talk multiplayer functions...
Sooo many maps...
The most balanced weapon system you've seen in like ummmm forever...
Smooth gameplay...
Fast but still slower than PC versions...
Tons of gametypes... (CTF, Territories, deathmatch, instagib... etc)...
WTF... DEDICATED SERVERS... no host advantage for gb... :o

So I was talking to Istassi (stacey) about this game and the question came up. "Why did everyone hate this game?" Well a simple answer was brought up and I agree with it. The PS3 version was the first unreal engine played on that console. X360 already had an unreal engine game (Gears of War) and we all knew that there were glitches in it. But not this game. I really don't even know if they'll have to patch it... that's how perfect they made this game. Graphics are there, game play is there, online co-op there, game variants there, etc.

So in conclusion this game has absolutely floored me. Thank you epic for not cutting corners the wait was well worth the end product. You're following valve in making sure you're getting quality not quantity on the market. And I can't wait to play Gears of War 2 now.

Verdict: If you haven't played it yet you should go buy it... take your BF:BC in as a trade (ok that was a low blow but I sticking with it roflmao)

Here's the IGN review... and from my perspective... they only have little things to complain about as well...
Oh and thank Microsoft for not allowing the custom maps...

Lucifer's Pearl Reviews GH: Aerosmith Edition Wed Jul 02, 2008

So being the huge miniature guitar fan that I am of course I went and got this game the first day it was available... and being the nerd I am I demolished it in the first night. So here's the run down. There are some really great songs on this expansion set. For instance "Sex Type Thing by STP" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You by Joan Jett". There's a link at the bottom for a full track list. But I have to say that I am dissappointed with some of the songs that are the Aerosmith featured songs. Or rather I should say that there would be some other songs that I would have liked to have seen on the set list. For instance "Crazy", "Same Old Song and Dance", "(Dude) Looks Like a Lady", "Janie's Got a Gun", "Cryin", and "Falling in Love (is hard on the knees)". But I am willing to over look that because granted it is a guitar game so therefore songs with complicated guitar tracks are the picks. But there are some real wonders on the song list... enough to diswarrant my theory.

OK WHAT THE HELL IS RUN DMC DOING IN GUITAR HERO!!! No... bad... grrrrrrrrrrr. I understand "Walk this way" but no they have their own song too. PLUS he's an unlockable character in all his early nineties glory. All I can say is thank god the but the non-covered version of the song in the game store so it can be purchased. BUT they also put "Pink" in the purchase category which I think should have been in the campaign but whatever... once it's unlocked who cares.

One of my big gripes is that the last 2 encore songs are the downloadable content aerosmith songs that came out for GH3 earlier this year. I think that's a little crappy when the last song you have to beat you've already played a million times. And even though it's an expansion there are still only 30 some odd songs on the thing. Which in my opinion makes it a little expensive for that short of a game. I would also like to know who yelled at the guys making the games because this expansion is significantly easier than its predecessor. I can not for the love of all that is good beat "Slayer" on hard but yet I was able to beat all of this edition on hard (including a battle) without failing once... without going yellow once. And yes I maybe better than average on this game but I am not that good. So tonight I will attempt it on expert and tell you how it goes.

So here's the final verdict. I would still have bought Aerosmith edition (mainly because I want to have all the guitar hero and rockband crap that' available) but I would have gladly shelled out the same amount of cash on xbox live for this content and been equally as happy with an expanded acheivement list and I WOULD NOT HAVE TO CHANGE FREAKIN' DISCS EVERYTIME I WANT TO PLAY RAGDOLL & PINK!!!
